**The short answer:** An AppuBot bot connected to Discord can read channels you can see, summarise a busy discussion, find messages and draft posts. With "Approve for me" it asks before it posts anything. Reading and summarising do not need approval.

## What can a bot do in Discord?

Communities on Discord move fast, and the people running them rarely have time to read everything. A bot can keep up and draft the replies and announcements.

- **Summarise channels.** Report the main themes and questions from a busy day.
- **Find messages.** Locate a past answer you want to reuse.
- **Draft announcements.** Write a release or event post for you to review.
- **Draft replies.** Prepare answers to common questions for you to approve.
- **Spot feedback.** Collect bug reports and feature requests from a channel into a list.
- **Track mentions.** List where you or your project were mentioned.

## What can you ask a bot to do in Discord?

These are the kinds of requests that work well. Type them in the app, or send them from your phone on Telegram.

- "Summarise #general since yesterday."
- "Collect every bug report from #feedback this week into a list."
- "Draft an announcement for the new release and show it to me first."
- "Find where someone asked about the Windows installer."
- "What questions came up more than once today?"

## How do you connect Discord to AppuBot?

1. Open AppuBot on your computer.
2. Click **Connect apps** in the sidebar to open the Apps page.
3. Sign in once in your browser. This links AppuBot to your own account for connected apps, and you only do it the first time.
4. Find Discord on the page and connect it. Your browser opens Discord's own sign-in and consent screen, and you approve it there.
5. Switch Discord on for the bots that may use it. Each bot has its own switch, so a bot you did not choose never touches it.

_The same Apps page lists about 1,700 other apps. Connecting one app once makes it available to every bot you allow._

## Will it ask before it changes things in Discord?

Posts in a server are public to its members and hard to take back, so on "Approve for me" the bot shows you the text and the channel first. Reading and summarising go ahead.

This follows the bot's permission choice. On "Approve for me" the bot asks before it acts in your account, and it waits as long as you take. Reads and searches go ahead without a question. On "Full access" it acts without asking, so keep that for bots you trust with the app. More in [Approvals](https://appubot.com/features/approvals).

## What should you know before relying on a bot in Discord?

A bot works through your own Discord account, so it can do what that account can do and nothing more. If a task fails, it tells you why in the chat instead of guessing.

Be specific about which project, folder, list or account you mean when you have several, and say once what the bot should never touch. You can save that in its [memory](https://appubot.com/features/memory) so it applies to every chat. AppuBot is free during early access and needs no AppuBot account, and you keep using the AI plan you already have.

## Which routines suit Discord?

Community care is regular work, which a [routine](https://appubot.com/features/routines) can start.

- **Daily digest.** Each evening, summarise the day's discussion in your main channels.
- **Weekly feedback list.** Fridays, collect feedback posts into one list.
- **Event reminder.** Before a scheduled event, draft the reminder post.

## Discord with computer use and Telegram

The connection reads and posts messages. For moderation settings or other features that only exist in the Discord app, [computer use](https://appubot.com/features/computer-use) lets the bot work in the app's window while you watch. [Social media bots](https://appubot.com/bots/social-media) often handle both.

With [Telegram](https://appubot.com/features/telegram) you can ask "what is the mood in the server today?" on the go, and approve a drafted announcement from your phone.

## Is it private to use Discord with a bot?

It uses your own Discord account and the servers you are in. What it reads goes to its AI provider so it can summarise. Respect your community's rules and members' expectations about that. Turn Discord off for a bot at any time.

Turn the app off for a bot at any time from its switch on the Apps page, and the bot loses access at once. You can also disconnect the app completely. See [connected apps](https://appubot.com/features/connected-apps) for how connections work.

## Questions

### Is this a Discord bot that lives in my server?

No. It works through your own account. It does not add a bot member to your server.

### Can it moderate for me?

It can flag messages and draft replies. Actions such as removing a member stay with you.

### Can it read private messages?

It can reach what your own account can. Turn Discord off for bots that should not.

### Does it work with Slack too?

Yes, connect both. See the [Slack page](https://appubot.com/apps/slack).
