Cursor's agent outside the editor

Cursor's agent with your Cursor account, as bots for everyday work, not only code.

By Sarthak Gupta · Updated

The short answer

Cursor's agent also runs outside the Cursor editor, and AppuBot uses that: install Cursor's terminal agent, sign in with your Cursor account once, and pick Cursor for a bot. The bot then works with Cursor's models on your plan, and AppuBot adds computer use in any app, Telegram, voice, memory, routines and its own approvals.

Every bot has its own job, instructions, model and memory.

What is Cursor's agent?

Cursor is best known as a code editor with AI built in. Its agent is also available from the terminal: Cursor describes it as a way to work with AI agents right from your terminal to write, review and change code, with models from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Cursor and others.

That terminal agent is what AppuBot runs. You don't need the editor open; the bot talks to Cursor's agent directly and gives it a name, a job and a place to work.

Which Cursor plan does it use?

Your Cursor account's. Cursor's pricing page lists Free (limited agent requests), Plus ($8 a month), Premium ($30 a month), Super ($100 a month) and Ultra ($200 a month), with more usage on each step up. Your bots' work counts toward that plan like your own agent requests.

If you already pay for Cursor for coding, AppuBot lets that plan do other work too, without a second AI subscription.

How do I set up Cursor in AppuBot?

  1. Download AppuBot and open it.
  2. Install Cursor's terminal agent with Cursor's one-line installer (Settings › Agents shows it when it's missing).
  3. Sign in once with your Cursor account. Cursor opens your browser to do it.
  4. AppuBot finds the agent and lists Cursor as ready. Pick it for a bot and choose a model.
  5. Choose how the bot asks: "Approve for me" or "Full access".

What does AppuBot add on top of Cursor?

  • Computer use in any app. A Cursor bot can open an app, read its window and click, type and scroll in it, many steps at a time: rename a folder of scanned documents and log each one in a sheet. See computer use.
  • Telegram and voice. Ask it from Telegram to check something on your computer while you're away from your desk. Speech is heard and spoken on your own computer. See Telegram and voice.
  • Memory and routines. Each bot keeps a memory you can read and edit, and can run a prompt on a schedule: every Friday, a tidy-up of your Downloads folder. See memory and routines.
  • Teach mode and many bots. Show a bot a task once and it saves the steps as a skill (teach mode); make as many bots as you like, each with its own job, folder, chats and agent.
  • AppuBot's approvals. On "Approve for me", reading and searching go ahead and anything else waits for your OK, in the app or on Telegram. See approvals.
  • The bot's instructions. Cursor reads the bot's instructions, so every chat starts knowing its job.

Questions

Do I need the Cursor editor open for AppuBot to use Cursor?

No. AppuBot uses Cursor's terminal agent, which runs on its own; you only need it installed and signed in.

Does Cursor in AppuBot need an API key?

No. It uses your Cursor account sign-in, so your existing plan is enough.

Which models can a Cursor bot use?

The ones Cursor's agent offers your account. AppuBot reads the list from Cursor and shows it in the bot's model picker.

Can a Cursor bot work in apps like Excel or Mail?

Yes. Turn on computer use for the bot and it works in any app window on your computer, asking first on "Approve for me".

Does AppuBot show my Cursor usage?

No. Cursor doesn't keep usage figures on your computer for AppuBot to read, so check usage on Cursor's own dashboard.

Can I use Cursor and Claude Code side by side?

Yes. Each bot picks its own agent, so one bot can run on Cursor and another on Claude Code, each on its own plan.
