An AI assistant that remembers, with a memory you can read

Bots remember what matters across chats, and you can read and edit every line.

The short answer

Every AppuBot bot has a memory: a plain note of facts it should keep, like your rates, your accountant's email or how you like replies. It remembers things as you talk, reads its memory at the start of every chat, and all its chats share it. You can open the memory, read every line, change it or clear it, and it never leaves your computer except as part of what the bot sends its own AI.

The bot editor in AppuBot: name, look, job, instructions, model, permissions, computer use and memory
Every bot has its own job, instructions, model and memory.

What does a bot remember?

  • Facts about you. Your time zone, your company name, the people you work with.
  • How you like things. "Short replies", "dates as 29 Oct", "always attach the PDF".
  • Decisions. "We pay suppliers on the 15th", "the new price list starts in November".
  • Where things are. The folder your invoices go in, the sheet your sales live in.

It keeps facts, not transcripts: a dated line per fact, with repeats left out.

How does memory work?

  1. Tell the bot something worth keeping, or ask it to "remember that…". It saves a short dated line.
  2. When a fact changes, it updates the line; when you say "forget that", it removes it.
  3. When you move on to a new chat, the bot is asked quietly what from the last one is worth keeping.
  4. Every new chat starts with the bot's memory, so a fresh conversation still knows you.

Where can I see and edit it?

In the bot's settings and in the side panel next to the chat. It's one plain note: read it, fix a line, add something yourself, or clear it. On Telegram, /memory shows it. Changes apply at once, without restarting anything.

Bots each have their own memory, so your accounting bot doesn't carry your recruiter bot's notes. Memory is separate from a bot's instructions (what you tell it to do, set by you) and its skills (tasks it knows how to do, see teach mode).

Is my memory private?

It's stored on your computer in the bot's own folder. It reaches the bot's AI provider (Anthropic, OpenAI and so on) only as part of what the bot sends while it works, as when you tell that AI something yourself. There's no AppuBot server holding it.

Nothing is remembered in secret: if it is in memory, you can read it. And memory belongs to the bot, not the AI, so it stays when you move the bot to another agent or model.

Memory, instructions and skills: what goes where?

A good rule: if you'd tell a new colleague on day one, put it in instructions. If they'd pick it up over the first month, let it go into memory.

  • Instructions are the rules you set for the bot: its job, its tone, what it must never do. You write them in the bot's settings.
  • Memory is what the bot learns as it works: facts, preferences and decisions. It writes them, and you can edit them.
  • Skills are how-tos for specific tasks, made by showing it once in teach mode or by asking it to save one.
  • Chats are the conversations themselves. Memory is what survives from them when you start a new one.

Questions

Can I write the memory myself?

Yes. Open the memory, type the facts you want the bot to know, and save; it reads them at the start of every new chat.

Do AppuBot bots remember previous conversations?

Yes, through their memory: facts worth keeping are saved and every chat starts with them. A bot can also read its earlier chats when it needs to.

Can I delete what a bot remembers?

Yes. Ask it to forget something, edit the memory yourself, or clear it completely.

Do all my bots share one memory?

No. Each bot has its own, shared by all of that bot's chats.

Is there a limit to how much a bot remembers?

A bot reads about the first 12 KB of its memory at the start of each chat, its oldest important lines and its newest ones, which is plenty for facts and preferences.

Can a bot remember things I say on Telegram?

Yes. Memory belongs to the bot, so facts it keeps from a Telegram chat are there in the app too, and the other way round.
