AppuBot vs Claude Cowork: your Claude plan, on your own computer

Cowork moved to Anthropic’s cloud. AppuBot keeps your Claude plan working on your own computer, alongside other AIs.

By Sarthak Gupta · Updated

The short answer

Claude Cowork is Anthropic's agent for work beyond code, now merged into Claude itself. Since 6 October 2026, new Cowork tasks on Pro and Max run in Anthropic's cloud, reaching your files and screen through the Claude desktop app, and it uses Claude only. AppuBot runs Claude Code on your own computer with the same Claude plan, adds other agents like Codex and Grok, and answers on Telegram. Both need a Claude plan if you want Claude; AppuBot adds nothing on top during early access.

What is Claude Cowork now?

Cowork started as a separate mode in the Claude app for bigger jobs: you give it a goal and it works across your files and tools, then hands back finished work. In September 2026 Anthropic began merging Cowork and chat into one Claude, so any conversation can now take on a Cowork-sized task. It writes Claude Docs and Slides, runs scheduled tasks, splits big projects into parts that run together, and asks before acting by default.

The bigger change is where it runs. Anthropic's Help Center says that from 6 October 2026, new Cowork tasks on Pro and Max run in the cloud, the old "only on your computer" setting was removed, and there's no switch to choose. Your folders stay on your computer, and Claude reaches them through the desktop app while it's open; files it works on are processed on Anthropic's servers. For new tasks that run only on your computer, Anthropic points people to Claude Code.

Where AppuBot fits

AppuBot runs exactly that: Claude Code, on your computer, signed in with your Claude plan. Each AppuBot bot is a Claude Code session with a name, a job, its own folder and memory, so the work, its files and its chats stay on your machine.

On top of that, bots use any app on your computer through computer use, reachable from your phone on Telegram and by voice. And not every bot has to be Claude: one can run Codex on your ChatGPT plan, another Grok or GitHub Copilot.

Computer use: how do they compare?

Fairly closely now. Cowork's computer use, in beta on Pro and Max for Mac and Windows, tries connectors first, then a browser, then your screen: clicking, typing and navigating your desktop apps. On macOS 15 or later it works in background windows without taking your pointer, and asks before using each app.

AppuBot's computer use is the heart of the app rather than a fallback, on Mac, Windows and Linux. A bot reads each window's buttons and fields by name and does many steps per turn, so jobs take seconds. A pointer with the bot's face shows its clicks, background mode lets it work behind your windows, and teach mode lets you show it a task once.

Who should pick which?

  • Pick Claude Cowork if you only use Claude, want work to continue with your laptop closed, like having Docs, Slides and a phone app in one place, or need Anthropic's admin controls for a company.
  • Pick AppuBot if you want your Claude plan to work on your own computer, want Telegram and voice, want different AIs for different jobs, or use Linux.
  • Use both if you like: they share the same Claude plan, so your usage simply counts toward it either way.

Questions

Does Claude Cowork still run on my computer?

Not for new tasks on Pro and Max: since 6 October 2026 they run in Anthropic's cloud, reaching your connected folders and screen through the Claude desktop app. Tasks started locally before then can finish there.

Can I use my Claude Pro or Max plan in AppuBot?

Yes. AppuBot runs Claude Code signed in with your Claude account, so your bots use your Pro or Max plan with no API key.

Is Claude Cowork free?

No. It needs a paid Claude plan: Pro is $20 a month ($17 billed yearly), Max starts at $100, and Team and Enterprise plans include it too.

Which is better on Linux?

AppuBot, which runs on Linux with computer use. Claude Desktop for Linux is in beta, and Cowork’s computer use is for Mac and Windows.

Can Claude Cowork answer me on Telegram?

Anthropic lists the Claude desktop and phone apps, the web and Chrome as the places to use Cowork, not Telegram. Every AppuBot bot can have its own Telegram bot.
