How do I choose an AI agent app?
- Decide where the work lives. If it’s mostly websites and new documents, a cloud agent is fine. If it’s in desktop apps, files on your disk or tools on your office network, you need an agent on your own computer.
- Check which AI you already pay for. Cloud agents bring their own plan and model. Agents on your computer, like AppuBot, OpenBot and OpenClaw, can use a Claude or ChatGPT plan you already have. See use your Claude or ChatGPT plan.
- Decide if it must run with your computer off. Cloud agents do; local ones need the computer on (or a server).
- Look at how you’ll reach it. Phone apps, WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack: pick the one you already check.
- Check approvals. An agent that acts in your accounts should ask first. See how to let AI use your Mac safely.
Cloud agents
- Claude Cowork. Anthropic's agent for work beyond code, now part of Claude. New tasks on Pro and Max run in Anthropic's cloud; it writes Docs and Slides, runs schedules and has computer use in beta on Mac and Windows. Claude only. AppuBot vs Claude Cowork.
- OpenAI dots. One always-on agent on GPT-6 Astra with its own cloud computer, reachable in ChatGPT, Slack, Teams and calls. Needs ChatGPT Pro or a business plan, and Pro excludes the EEA, UK and Switzerland. AppuBot vs dots.
- Grok Bot. Named bots on one shared cloud computer, with phone apps, Slack and X; the model is picked for you. AppuBot vs Grok Bot.
- Manus. A general agent in a cloud sandbox, strong at research and building things, with a free daily allowance of credits and Telegram. AppuBot vs Manus.
- Meta Muse. A personal agent for errands in Meta's cloud browser, on its app, the web and WhatsApp, in the US and Canada. AppuBot vs Muse.
